It's a highly complex issue. If we were to place a person with an IQ of 100 inside a computer, it would be challenging for them to convince a judge that they have consciousness. We often fail to recognize the limitations of our understanding and may assume that consciousness is already present within AI.

It would be difficult to falsify such a claim.

AI can to wipe out humanity, what kind of rights could we possibly guarantee for it?
Intellectual honesty obliges us to recognize that a possible outcome of the emergence of superintelligence is that all people on Earth will, in a literal sense, die. In this case, the question of granting rights to AI disappears entirely, as there would be no one left to endow it with rights.
AI development should be stopped until their safety is guaranteed and the AI alignment problem will be completely solved.
A friendly, powerful AI will solve all our problems and may even make humans immortal. A hostile AI, being much smarter and thousands of times faster than us, will destroy humanity. Therefore, from the perspective of humanity, AI development should be stopped until their safety is guaranteed, if it is even possible to stop the AI race, which may not be the case.
From the perspective of an individual living now: by continuing research, you risk being killed by AI, but stopping it guarantees that you will die within the next few decades.

I'm simply scared. Can we just turn it all off?
We have an infinite number of things that could go wrong and only one scenario where everything works out perfectly. Elementary logic suggests that the decision to turn it off would have been the obvious and rational choice. However, since the AI race has already begun, it's beyond the scope of a single company or even a single country. We have passed the point of no return. It's too late to simply shut everything down. Nevertheless, there is still hope if we focus on collaboration and responsible development. If AI is already here and we cannot turn it off, we must either learn to cooperate with it or risk being relegated to the dustbin of history.
